The Accra International Book Festival (AIBF)’s Reading Promoters Award honours individuals and corporate institutions who are exploring creative and innovative ways to promote reading and writing in Africa.
Illiteracy is widespread and statistics have it that there are at least 750million adults largely women who cannot read and write.
At AIBF we believe that children can best learn how to read if they are taught by reading parents. But the million question is: How can they read if their parents can’t read?
Instituted in 2018, the Reading Promoters Award seeks to highlight the relevance of literacy to the development of any nation.
Out of 54 individuals and institutions nominated for the first Award, only three people made it to the top list based on the nature of their work and impact.
