How do you unbind a magazine?
Open the magazine to the page you want to remove, gently hold the two halves of the magazine (all pages) and pull them outwards so you can clearly see the centre of the magazine. Hold the scalpel (knife) at about 45 degrees and gently cut between the two pages.
How do you unbind a spiral book?
To remove and replace the current coil binding, you must be careful not to damage the coil so you can re-use it. With needle nose pliers or a similar tool, gently bend the crimp out of each end of the coil so they line up with the binding and then spin the coil out of the book manually or with a machine as above.
How do you open a book without damaging the spine?
Just lay the book on its spine, as shown to the right, and alternate between opening a few pages from the front and back. This should “limber up” the binding without breaking it, and make reading a little easier. Click the “Expand” button on the image to the left to see it full-size.
